The AUD4988 is a 3D stereo audio power amplifier that delivers an average of 2 watts, per channel, of continuous power to a 4 ohm BTL (bridge tied load), with distortion of less than 1% from a 5V DC power supply.
The AUD4988 is specifically designed to provide high output power with a minimal amount of external components. It requires no output coupling capacitors, for instance. Because of its space-saving footprint, it perfectly meets the needs of mobile phones and PDAs, MP3 and portable media players, notebook computers and other low-voltage applications that require small power sources in a small package.
The AUD4988 features a selectable 3D stereowide function to enable 3D stereo output. The amplifier has an external capacitor that adjusts the 3D stereowide function to meet the users' requirements.
To optimize its external components, AUD4988 has a gain network with a preset gain range of Av = 2, 2.8, 4, 5.6 and 8.
The AUD4988 has an ultra-low current shutdown mode that is activated when the shutdown control pin is being switched to the low setting. The AUD4988 also features an internal thermal shutdown protection mechanism, and circuitry that eliminates pop-and-click noise whenever the device is turned on or off.
